Veteran Program

The veteran adventure race training program is intended to provide experienced adventure racers or people looking for a greater challenge with a quality training program that will enable them to take their performance to the next level. The three-season periodized program will peak members at the end of the year when many championship races are held.

As participants are expected to either have some knowledge of adventure racing or some base level of fitness, it is expected that they will stand to learn the most from coaches who specialize in the particular discipline they are coaching. Each coach is skilled in their particular specialty and can offer a more advanced perspective than a multi-sport athlete can on training and technique as it relates to that specific discipline. In addition, Texas Adventure Racing Club has worked hard to integrate each individual coach's training program into a comprehensive adventure racing program that will benefit all members.

Like the novice program, practice will be held every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 pm, as well as every other Saturday. Weekday practices will focus on one of the core disciplines of adventure racing: running, biking, paddling or navigation. Unlike the novice program, veterans can expect to participate in multi-sport practices right from the beginning. Weekend practices are intended to add even more variety to the program and may include endurance training in a particular sport, multi-discipline practices and exposure to some of the fringe disciplines of adventure racing (such as rollerblading, scootering, climbing and ropes work and mystery events).

As the schedule advances, participants can expect to engage in workouts that will build endurance, strength and speed. For all practices, the discipline of emphasis as well as any required gear will be listed on the website training calendar.
