Nutrition for Recovery
By Steve Mertz
You've just put in a good several hour workout or race and are ready to feed the beast! But if you want to recover quickly so you can start training again right away, you need to pay attention to what you feed that beast with for maximum recovery!
We have all heard the need to ingest carbohydrates and protein within 30 minutes of the workout with a ratio of 3:1 to 4:1 carbohydrates to protein to get that recovery started. But there are other things that one needs to help. There are vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids that are all very useful for helping to recover from the damage you just did to your body. What we will do in this article is break it down to show you what you want to eat and how it will help you move forward with that recovery.
